Smirnoff Ice

All my friends and acquaintances know that I write about booze and consume frightful quantities of it. So of course they regularly bean me with questions about new products. "How's that new cheese flavored whiskey from Sardinia?" Etc., Etc. One item that's come up a lot lately is Smirnoff Ice. My guess is that is the result of Smirnoff Ice showing up in damned near every beer store in my city. There's nothing like raw economic might in getting product placement. I got to try Smirnoff Ice the other day. I was riding a train, coming back from an all day BBQ in Connecticut. Seated a few rows ahead were an obnoxious pack of 14 year olds, howling and making flatulent sounds. I tried to bury myself in a book but it was hopeless. Happily, I had a bottle of Smirnoff Ice with me. I wrenched the cap off and tipped it back. Gatorade. Really- it tastes like Gatorade, the green, original version. It's sweet and citrus-y, so drink it cold. But the vodka within is imperceptible. Simple- but impressive, and likely a drink that the ladies will enjoy. Reviewed 06/01 |
